05 Interactive area

A wide range of activities and interactions inspired by new discoveries, surprises and intellectual curiosity

As a site for interactions, this area is used to provide visitors and citizens of Mie with a variety of opportunities to inquire about Mie, receive and transmit information, refer to materials and participate in interactive learning programs in order to meet their needs to learn and conduct research about the nature, history and culture of the prefecture. A wide range of activities, which are inspired by each of our new discoveries, surprises and intellectual curiosity, can be conducted through interactions among visitors, citizens of the prefecture and the museum, and we believe such an effort will lead to the creation of new ideas and transmission of more information.
 

Core of the interactive area – learning space –

Reference room

At MieMu, visitors can refer to real materials concerning the nature, history and culture of Mie as well as historically important official documents created by the prefecture. Besides, we will support activities by and interactions among visitors and citizens of the prefecture by satisfying the needs of those who wish to refer to our materials for their research or consult us about the usage of the materials.

1,000 books to help you learn about Mie

Books and information on the nature, history and culture of Mie are freely available to visitors.

Workshop area

In the Workshop area, we offer a variety of workshops which visitors and citizens of Mie can feel free to join.

Relaxation space

In the Relaxation space, which is a bright place located right by the Museum Field, visitors can spend a relaxing time enjoying seasonal views of the field.

Activity area

The Activity area is available to a variety of voluntary groups as a site to hold meetings and make presentations about their activities.

Information center on museums in Mie

Visitors can gain information on different museums and their events in the prefecture here.

An exhibition room to enhance children’s interest in museums – hands-on exhibition room for children –

This exhibition room helps children realize how fun museums are by giving them opportunities to enjoy “making a try,” “conducting research” and “conserving and handing down heritage” on their own. In this high-ceilinged, spacious room with a good view of the museum field, visitors (children) are allowed to touch displayed materials as well as climb ramps and move through tunnels so that their curiosity will be enhanced.

Materials about the nature, history and culture of Mie beautifully exhibited like an encyclopedia – Mie living encyclopedia –

In this room, materials concerning the history and culture of Mie are beautifully exhibited so as to highlight their features. Visitors can see different exhibits depending on the season and project. Besides, materials about the nature of the prefecture are sorted and exhibited like an encyclopedia, and videos, graphic images and touchable exhibits are also used to better provide information on the ecology of animals and plants. All those materials will definitely help visitors rediscover the attractiveness of Mie.

Visitors can take a close look at “Sanchan,” a mascot of MieMu – a Japanese giant salamander raised in an aquarium –

While observing “Sanchan,” a Japanese giant salamander designated as a special national natural treasure, visitors can learn about the ecology and protection of Japanese giant salamanders with the help of a monitor placed right beside its aquarium. Visitors are allowed to observe it even at feeding time (on a periodic basis).

Rooms for a variety of training programs, learning courses and activities

Lecture room

This room is available for offering training programs and learning courses as well as guidance (briefings) for organizations and schools.

Workshop room

This room is used to hold a wide variety of workshops as well as experimental and practical courses.

Exchange area

This room is available to visitors, citizens of Mie, groups, organizations, etc. who conduct activities and have interactions with one another at MieMu.
