02 Philosophy of MieMu

A museum which thinks, acts and grows with people

MieMu will achieve its three goals (①to conserve and hand down the prefectural heritage for generations, ②to make contributions to human development and ③to make contributions to regional development) in response to the public demand for social contributions by museums. We also conduct three types of activities, namely “research studies,” “collection and conservation of exhibits” and “heritage utilization and information transmission” from the perspective of “creation through collaboration” and “partnership.” Such efforts are made also in the hope that visitors and citizens of the prefecture can participate in all the museum activities voluntarily and actively in a more interactive manner. We will work hard to increase the quality and frequency of our museum activities in order to support individual and regional development.

Mission of MieMu

01 To conserve and hand down the natural, historical and cultural heritage of Mie for generations

We will play a leading role in conserving and handing down the natural, historical and cultural heritage of Mie for more than 100 or 200 years, and then make contributions to the development of regional cultures and the vitalization of local communities by revealing the features and history of the prefecture.

02 To make contributions to human development through learning and interactions

Children in Mie will assume a key role in the creation of a better future of the prefecture. At MieMu, they can enjoy experience-based learning through interactions with different generations. By learning here, they will have a deeper understanding of and affection for Mie, and then get inspired to create a better future filled with dreams and hopes. Besides, we can also motivate visitors and citizens of Mie to learn more with intellectual curiosity as well as with a sense of fulfillment for their individual development.

03 To make contributions to regional development by helping people become more attached to and more proud of their local communities

Through the museum activities, visitors and citizens of Mie will pay more attention to their local communities, rediscover their attractiveness, and then transmit more information on them to those living within or outside the prefecture. By doing so, they will come to have a deeper affection for the prefecture as well as their local communities with pride. Moreover, we also inspire them to do something, for example, to pursue their interests and solve various problems in everyday life, for their regional development.

Activities conducted based on two perspectives

01 “Creation through collaboration” with visitors and citizens of Mie

“Creation through collaboration” means the development of our museum as a “hub for “cultural and intellectual explorations,” which can be made only by sharing all the museum activities with visitors and citizens of the prefecture.

02 “Partnerships” with various different people

“Partnership” means the implementation of museum activities in cooperation with various different people who are active within or outside Mie. By acting based on this perspective, we can definitely learn something from our partners, use it for the improvement of the quality and frequency of our activities, and then offer even better activities and services to visitors and citizens of the prefecture.

Museum activities

01 Research studies

Research studies, which form the basis of all the museum activities, are designed to reveal the attractiveness of Mie and help to promote the other museum activities, namely “collection and conservation of exhibits” and “heritage utilization and information transmission.” We will conduct further research studies with you, including joint studies with other institutes and organizations, participatory research activities done in cooperation with local communities and activities to support voluntary studies by visitors and citizens of Mie.

02 Collection and conservation of exhibits

We conserve the natural, historical and cultural heritage of Mie as “common property” of all the citizens of the prefecture and hand it down from generation to generation. By conducting this activity with various different people as well as with visitors and citizens of Mie, we can also help to foster good local heritage keepers, support activities to conserve local heritage, and then use the experience for better “research studies” and “heritage utilization and information transmission.”

03 Heritage utilization and information transmission

Through “interactions” and “exhibitions,” we make the natural, historical and cultural heritage of Mie available to all the citizens of the prefecture so that they can also transmit information on it. “Interactions” include a variety of activities, such as inquiries about Mie, information transmission and reception, reference to materials and learning programs. By giving visitors and citizens of Mie opportunities to voluntarily interact and conduct activities with others, we will promote interactive information exchanges between the museum and those people.
