Exhibition Overview
The Mie Prefectural Art Museum and the Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum are two of the few museums in Japan that include Spanish art in their collection policy. This exhibition features approximately 100 works selected from the collections of both museums, ranging from the Middle Ages to the present day, and introduces the best of Spanish art.
Bartolome Esteban Murillo, Francisco de Goya, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali... Spain has nurtured a rich artistic culture, produced many great artists, and woven its own art history. This exhibition traces the endless history of Spanish art with keywords such as “religion,” “light and shadow,” and “tradition and innovation. From medieval woodblock prints and oil paintings of the 17th century, the golden age of art and culture, to installations of the 20th century, we hope you will enjoy the fascinating horizons of expression that Spanish art has opened up.
