Activities
Research and Study
The basis of all the activities at the museum is thorough research done by curators. We are conducting various research on special themes, centering around our collection and around the art and the artists that have made special contributions to Mie Prefecture both in preparations for spacial exhibitions and to our permanent collection.
Collection and Presentation of Works of Art and Research Materials
We are currently collecting in these areas; Japanese modern paintings from the Meiji Period to the present, foreign works which had profond influences on Japanese artisits, works by artists who have had deep connections with Mie Prefecture since the Edo Period and contemporary works of art.
We aim at a collection which makes it possible to understandthe general stream of the history of Modern Art.
The collected works and materials are categorized and preserved in the storage and regularly fumigated.
Display and Exhibition
Through the display of the permanent collction and special exhibitions , we present to the public the fruit of our activities in the clearest form. We especially attach preat importance to the former. We change display four times a year. In these displays we intend to present the outline of the development of Modern Art (particulary the development of Japanese Modern Western-style paintings).
We organize about four special exhibitions a year on original themes including a few collaborative exhibitions.
