Since 2000, Mie Prefectural Art Museum has organized exhibitions in the Gallery, featuring artists of middle standing, who have something to do with Mie Prefecture. This year, we present you works of Yoshimoto Sakuji who live in Kuwana city.

Yoshimoto Sakuji was born in Gifu Prefecture in 1959. He developed his acitivities after the early 1980's. At first, his works drew attention as following the fashion of neo-Expressionism. Around the time, violent and improvised strokes of the brush are charactristic of them.

After that, the surface of his works seems to become more ordered, however, humorous images of human beings have not been changed since his early works. In the recent works, he uses symbolic images and gives us fulfillment acuired in seeing art works,

We peresent you his current activities and his footsteps toward them by presenting his latest works together with those produced during the last few decades.
