30 May - 28 June 1992 Hours: 9:30a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Admission: charged We have organized every year the exhibitions, which show the total activities of artists who take most active part in the world of Japanese contemporary art. As one of these series, we hold the exhibition of Kyubey Kiyomizu, who has consistently made abstract sculptures. Kyubey Kiyomizu was born in Aichi Prefecture in 1922.He started his activities as an artist in pottery when he was a student of Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. About 1966, he began to devote himself to making sculptures by casting. Since about 1970, he has been concerned with the relationship between form and space. Though his sculptures have intellectual construction, they never give us cool feeling. Gently and softly curved lines are often used in his works, which are often pointed out to have some relationships with the Japanese tradition. He has actively made the open-air sculptures as well as searched for the relationship between sculpture and architectural space through large works exhibited indoors. These activities of Kiyomizu have been highly appreciated and he has received a number of prizes. In this exhibition, we show the total activities of Kiyomizu as a sculptor by exhibiting his sculptures from the early period to the present and some drawings. We would like to express our deep gratitude to the museums and the collectors, who have kindly lent us the works for display and to all the parties, who have offered their cooperation. |
