Exhibition Overview
Yanagihara Yoshitatsu (1910-2004) was a representative sculptor of the postwar Japanese figurative sculpture world, known for his “Milestone” series featuring crows and doves, and his standing female sculpture titled “Song of Dog”. In 2003, the Mie Prefectural Art Museum received a donation of his major works and related materials from the artist himself, which led to the establishment of the Yanagihara Yoshitatsu Memorial Gallery.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Yanagihara's death. To commemorate this anniversary, we will hold a special exhibition of representative works from the museum's collection in Room 4 of the Special Exhibition Room, in addition to the Yanagihara Yoshitatsu Memorial Gallery, where his works are usually exhibited. The exhibition will also explore the background of Yanagihara's creative process by deciphering the materials and techniques he used in his work and considering various aspects of Yanagihara and his artwork.
