About

Depending on one's culture, experience or lifestyle, the meanings or impressions received from a landscape are diversified innumerable ways. It is because our sensibility and imagination towards landscape has been shaped by countless works of art, movies, narratives, poems, etc. created in the past centuries, and, thus, reflects our cultural identity.

In the last years, wide-spreading SNS and ever-evolving high technologies have expanded the boundary of our visual experience both in terms of time and space. And the quality of landscape that we see in the everyday life has been dramatically changed. Such changes, on the one hand, can give us new ways of world perception but, on the other hand, can standardize our sensibility toward the landscape which is originally cultivated in particular local culture and climate. And such standardization can be a remote cause of destruction of small community or its indigenous scenery.

What kind of imagination will be effective to fully experience the landscape around us and to face the changing reality in this technology-driven age? In this exhibition “Para-Landscape”, we would like to think about the question with five contemporary visual artists. Their dynamic approach to the concept of landscape and exhibition space will certainly give us the hints, and renew your perception of landscape.
