Explanation |
The Symbolist painter Odilon Redon explored a world of mystery and imagination. While he is best known for monochromatic prints and charcoal drawings, this work features a rich palette including red, purple, and green. A veiled figure and a figure clad in a loincloth stand side by side, flanked by a tree rendered in fiery red. Various interpretations of the two figures have been proposed, including that they are the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ, but none have been conclusively proven. [Title in French] Allégorie: Un arbre rouge que ne rougit par le soleil |
