Exhibition Overview
Iwasaki Chihiro continued to draw children with beautiful colors and lines throughout her life. The bright, sweet and soft painting world drawn by Chihiro continues to be loved widely regardless of country, generation or gender.
Before Chihiro started her career as a picture book painter, in the early 1940s, which was the period of exploration, she met a painter Nakatani Tai. Chihiro was inspired by Nakatani's work and received instruction in oil painting under Nakatani. The war forced their artistic activities to be interrupted, but after the war, Chihiro became a famous picture book painter and Nakatani became a painter.
Strictly speaking, the relationship between Chihiro and Nakatani was only a year or two, but the exchange continued throughout their lives. Although the genres they express were different, the gentleness of their eyes toward lovable things was abundant in both of their works. In this exhibition, the interaction between the two, which has not been well known until now, will be introduced with about 110 original paintings of the picturebooks, oil paintings, drawings, etc. of Chihiro, about 40 oil paintings, drawings, etc. of Nakatani, and about 20 related materials.
