Kaoru yamaguchi(1907-1968) was born in Gunma Prefecure and studied oil paintings at Tokyo University of Arts. Then he went to Paris and studied there for three years.

After returning from Paris, he and his friends formed "Shin-Jidai-Youga-ten", "Jiyu-Bijutsuka-Kyoukai" and "Modern Art Kyoukai". Also he took up teaching at Tokyo University of Arts.

 

His works are characterized by peculiar sense of color and construction, and immersed in lyrical tone.
On 100th anniversary of Yamaguchi's birth(2007), we present about 90 works, a retrospective exhibition of Karou Yamaguchi.

(late 1940's ~middle 1950's)
