Human being attaches importance to sight among five senses, and tends to comprehend visible object as true existence. However, does a visible object really have substance as being seen? We ordinarily experience illusion by sight or prejudice. Sight easily deceives us and throws us into confusion.

Painters of any time and place have paid attention to such structue of sight, and have produced various "trompe-l'oeil" which deceives and amuses viewers. Contemporary art also takes over attitude challenging sight, and brought about diverse modes of expression conscious of viewpoint of viewers such as Op Art of the 1960s featuring effect of optical illusion, Light Art utilizing light, Superrealism of the 1970s based on photography, and Parodies of the 1990s referirng to Classical Painting.

This exhibition mainly consists of the collection of the Takamatsu City Museum of Art which is centered upon Post-war Art and introduces works undermining fixed images of sight as "Trick Art". We hope that visitors might experience 'wonder of seeing' and 'pleasure of being deceived' again through various tricks set up by 26 artists.
