Since 2000, Mie Prefectural Art Museum has organized exhibitions in the Gallery, featuring artists of middle standing, who have something to do with Mie Prefecture. This year, We present you recent works by Someya Arika (1961- ) who was born in Aichi prefecture and lives in Inabe city in Mie Prefecture. Someya Arika was born in Aichi Prefecture in 1961. She developed her acitivities after the middle 1980's. After the latter half of 1990's, her work consists of subtraction method. In the seris Soak, motor oil depicts ornamental patterns on white ground on veneer board. As time passes by, patterns go collapsing. The seris Decolor is realized by decoloring velvet clothes. Where is image, on, in or beyond the velvet surface? From the inside of ordinary material, there appear phantom-like images, and at the same time viewers will feel layers of passed-by times. |
