Emil Nolde (1867-1965), a great painter of the German Expressionism is famous for his colorful and beautiful watercolor paintings and prints. Emil Nolde was born and brought up in the region which is near the border between German and Denmark. And he traveled southeast Asian countries including Japan, tropical islands and all over the world. After that, he was active as an aritist in big cities such as Berlin. Despite these experiences, the artist loved both landscapes and natural features of his hometown which are charastristic of marchy areas. He did not stop painting them throuout his life. In 1927-37 he designed and built his house in Seebull, near his hometown and he lived there until his later years. It was in this house where he painted small ,but extremly attractive watercolor paintings known as "Unpainted paintings", in spite of the fact that he was prohibited from creating by the Nazis during the World War II. In accordance with Nolde's will, his house is open to the public with different flowers with four seasons. At the same time, the house is the artist's museum, which has the most substantial collection for the artist both in quality and in quantity. We believe that this exhibition will give you geaat opportunity to know and appreciate Nolde's arts thorough about 121 pieces including watercolor paintings, etchingss, woodblock prints, lithographs. This exhibition is devided into six categories such as Landscapes, Human figures, Dances, Flowers, Fantasies, "Unpainted paintings", which are thought to comprise his whole artistic activities. |
