History and Image of the Tsu Festival

The Tsu festival, which have taken place every October for 370 years. The origin of this event came from the fact that Todo Takatsugu, the second lord of the domain of Tsu encouraged it and held it as a festival for the Tsu Hachiman-gu. It has been held as the biggest festival in Tsu city since then.

 

This exhibition features the longest picture scroll, the Tsu Hachiman-gu Sairei Zukan (Spencer Collection, New York Public Library), which depicts the Tsu Festival. And you can enjoy other art works such as paintings. caligraphies and crafts with regards to the history and the development of this festival. Furthermore, we intoroduce you some parts of culture for various festivals and townspeoplein the Edo era.
