Marc Chagall was born at Vitebsk in former Russia as a Jewish on 1887. His works filled with personal fantasy are very popular in Japan, too. Although already Mie Prefectural Art Museum possesses a oil painting La branche, 7 drawings of his early days and a series of lithographs Le cirque, commemorating 10 anniversary of the museum we held an exhibition dedicated to Chagall.

In this exhibition we presented Chagall's world by 5 themes which seem to be important for Chagall;

  1. Town in Russia
  2. Bible
  3. Circus, Musicians
  4. Personages, Animals
  5. Lovers, flowers

This exhibition was supervised by Nakatani Nobuo.
