Exhibition Overview
Kodomo no Tomo is a monthly picture book first published by Fukuinkan Shoten in 1956 with the aim of creating highly artistic picture books. One of the attractions of Kodomo no Tomo is that the picture books were created by artists who are active in a variety of fields, including Western and Japanese paintings, sculpture, and manga. The authors have created unprecedented picture books by incorporating techniques and materials appropriate to the expression of the story.
In this exhibition, we will introduce masterpieces that are indispensable when talking about "Children's Friends" from the Miyagi Museum of Art's original picture book collection, as well as original pictures from picture books that have been loved by children throughout the ages.
