08 Role as an archive of official documents

Learn about Mie’s modern history through real materials – a museum functioning as an archive of official documents –

MieMu functions not only as a museum, but also as an “archive of official documents,” where historically important official documents, including old ones, selected and created by governmental organizations are supposed to be conserved and exhibited according to Japan’s archives act.

Conservation of materials

We sort, conserve and exhibit historically important official documents created by Mie Prefecture since the Meiji Period (1868–1912). In addition, we also make an inventory of the materials conserved at the museum so that it can be available to visitors.

Reference to materials

Visitors can search information on the historically important official documents conserved at the museum through its computer terminals or website and make application for permission to refer to such documents in the reference room. As materials to conserve, we have historically important official documents, official publications, historical old documents, etc. here.

Exhibitions

Some of our historically important official documents and historical old documents are shown to the public in some rooms, including the Mie living encyclopedia and the reference room.

Consultation

We provide consultation about the materials conserved at the museum as well as about the nature, history and culture of Mie.
